Child Dedication at Ebenezer Holiness Church is deeply rooted in our conviction that children are a divine gift, echoing Psalm 127:1, which underscores God’s indispensable role in family life. As parents, we embrace the responsibility outlined in Ephesians 6:4, ensuring that our actions in raising children align with God’s will. The narrative of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:11, 26-28 serves as a poignant example of dedicating children to the Lord, reflecting our commitment to honor God’s plans for our families.
By dedicating a child to the Lord, Christian parents affirm their reliance on God (Psalm 127:1), invite His active presence into their family life, and yield their desires to His divine purpose (1 Samuel 1:11). This act is a solemn pledge to raise their child according to God’s teachings, as mandated in Ephesians 6:4, ensuring that the child grows in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Children are viewed not merely as possessions but as treasures entrusted to us by God (Psalm 127:3-5). Our responsibilities as parents, outlined in Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 11:19, Proverbs 29:15, 17; 13:24, include continuous prayer, biblical instruction, setting a godly example, and loving discipline—all enabled by Christ’s strength (Philippians 4:13).
It’s crucial to understand that Child Dedication is distinct from salvation, as highlighted in Ephesians 2:8-9, emphasizing that salvation is a personal decision to accept Christ. Likewise, it differs from baptism, which symbolizes one’s public declaration of faith (Romans 6:3-4) and should be undertaken when a child is mature enough to make a conscious choice to follow Christ.
We joyfully dedicate infants at EHC every second Sunday of the month. We warmly invite your family and friends to join us as we seek God’s blessings for your little one.
